英文原文

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month, the first full moon in a new year, symbolizing family harmony and reunion. It marks the ending of Spring Festival celebrations. On festival nights, streets are decorated with all kinds of lanterns. People watch dragon & lion dances, guess lantern riddles and set off fireworks, enjoyed by all ages.

中文釋義

元宵節在農歷正月十五，是新年首輪滿月，象征團圓和睦，代表春節正式落幕。當夜街巷掛滿各式花燈，民眾出游賞燈、舞龍舞獅、猜燈謎、燃放煙花，老少同樂。

三大起源說法

西漢祭祀說：西漢武帝正月祭祀太一神，漢代受朝廷重視，漢魏發展為全民民俗節日今日綿竹。

遠古火把起源：上古百姓正月舉火把驅蟲害、祈豐收，逐步演化成節慶。

道教三元 + 佛教燃燈：道教三元體系中正月十五為上元（天官賜福）；東漢明帝效仿佛門正月點燈禮佛，詔令舉國掛燈，賞燈習俗普及民間。

歷史典故：漢文帝平定諸呂之亂定正月十五為節慶（平呂典故）。

Part 2 Convention（傳統習俗）

1 Eat Yuanxiao 吃元宵

Yuanxiao is sticky rice dumpling stuffed with sweet fillings. Its name comes from a palace maid named Yuanxiao in Western Han. Boil it in boiling water for several minutes to serve. Round shape stands for family reunion。

元宵以糯米裹甜餡制成，名字源自漢代宮女元宵，水煮即食，圓形寓意闔家團圓；宋代原名浮元子，商家別稱元寶。

2 Guess lantern riddles 猜燈謎

Originated in Song Dynasty. Riddles are written on slips and stuck to lanterns. Correct guessers get small gifts, a popular wise amusement across all classes。

燈謎始于宋代，謎面貼于燈面，猜對獲小禮品，全民喜愛的益智活動。

3 經典民俗英文詞組

lion dance（舞獅）、dragon dance（耍龍）、stilt walking（踩高蹺）、land-boat dance（劃旱船）、yangge（扭秧歌）。

Part3 Food（節日美食）

名稱演變：最早稱浮元子 (Floating Yuanzi)，后叫元宵、湯圓，生意人雅稱元寶。
